Stewardship 2010 - Rejoice

This modified version of Psalm 118:24 is the stewardship theme that we at St. John’s have chosen to guide us this fall, to rally us together in gladness and prepare us for faithful pledging for the year to come.

This verse reminds us that each day is a gift from God and that each day we make choices about how we will live, based on that knowledge. As Christians we are called to recognize and appreciate joy in our lives, to grow (in faith and other ways), to reach out to others, and to be glad in the blessings that have been bestowed upon us.

Each week in the coming month will focus more deeply on one theme from the verse:
October 11: Rejoice
October 18: Grow
October 25: Reach out
November 1: Be glad

For example …
Asked what REJOICE means to him, one member of St. John’s shared this story:

I was with the youth group on a canoe trip and we had pitched our tents for the first night out of our canoes. I’m not usually a morning person but on this particular day, I was the first person up. I didn’t have any concept of time, but when I got out of my tent, I saw that the sun was just coming up. Everything was quiet except for the sounds of the river and some birds, and I could see steam coming up off of the water at the bend in the river. It struck me that I felt like I was living in some sort of secret time, a moment that had been given just to ME. Years later I found myself in a similar situation where I was alone early in the morning and it seemed like this was this special time just given to me, almost like it was a secret.

Rejoice. Grow. Reach out. Be glad. Consider these themes in your life over the coming weeks and share your stories in this day, the day the Lord has made. What’s YOUR story?
