Journeys of Stewardship
|

As I look back at the last ten years, I ask myself "What have I done at St.
John’s Lutheran Church to make a difference?" I go to church, I give my
offering, and I go home. The past five years I decided to become involved.
Tithing is a must to keep the church and programs running, but stewardship
to me is all about time and talent. Take a minute and look at what we need.
We need volunteers for youth ministry, being a teacher or a shepherd to
share your life’s experience with our youth by teaching the Lord’s Word.
Become passionate and be involved with change / improvements at our church.
We have goals and objectives that we need to achieve. With the help of this
talented, diverse group of members at St. John’s, we will clearly fulfill
our vision.
You may be asking yourself “Why should I become involved?" “I am too busy,
someone else will take care of it, or, I have no talent to offer." Every
single person has something to offer.
If you look at the big picture (a 10, 000 foot view,) there are countless
opportunities for you to become involved. I challenge you to make that first
step. I did five years ago and became a Sunday School teacher year after
year. I was elected to church council and have become involved with several
committees. Recently I had the opportunity to become involved with our
carillon bells project .The project started this past spring and has now
been completed and the bells will ring downtown again on Rally Sunday. By
becoming involved it gives me an incredible sense of accomplishment and self
worth.
Don’t look back, you’re not going that way. Become involved, you will not
regret it. Help yourself and St. John’s by not only giving financially, but
by also giving your time and talent. |
