I have a friend, he is eight years old and we’ll call him Danny (name
changed to protect the innocent.) He and his mother have a room in a big
house where they arrived in the middle of the night. On the day I visited
that house, there were mothers, two babies and six other children. Members
of WELCA have been collecting clothing, hygiene products, diapers and other
useful items to help these families who have fled to safety. Often times
they leave behind whatever they have in whatever home they’ve left. The day
I stopped by with clothing (some of mine and some from a neighbor) Danny
helped me carry in the sacks.
“Got any toys?” Danny asked.
“No, just girl stuff today. What kind of toys do you like?” I replied.
“Cars,” he said definitively.
Leaving to meet friends for lunch I kept hearing Danny talk about cars.
After lunch, I made a visit to Toys R Us and picked up some Matchbox cars.
Guilt Trip? No. Selfish feeling? Yes. Always better to give….. I didn’t see
Danny when I dropped off the cars, but the lady in charge will make sure he
gets them. It felt good to share with Danny what God has given to me.
Want to feel good? Share. God will bless you for it.
