Meditation: July 15, 2007
"It is not in heaven, that you should say, "Who will go up to
heaven for us, and get it for us so that we may hear it and observe it?"
No, the word is very near to you; it is in your mouth and in your heart for
you to observe."
Deuteronomy 30:12, 14
Reflection:
Yo-yo, paddle-ball and boomerang.
Over and over, we send these away to search through the air. They journey
much like our deeds: arcing away, in time coming back, but from a different
direction, and often less smoothly than we hoped.
Whether bound by visible tethers or mysterious winds, we marvel at how
they burst away, charged with energy, excitement and possibility.
But we can only push them out so far. No matter how hard we try, with
what skill, or with what aim, they inevitably slow down, hesitate, and
appear aimless. In due time, they track back to us.
On every flight, a little power is left behind. Where it goes, what
absorbs it, or who is affected we cannot be certain.
When our personal actions come back, God wants us to discern their angle,
speed and spin, compared to his word placed near within.
Carefully send out. Thoughtfully catch back. Re-aim through the word.
Without constant attention, everything withers. Without new bursts of
Spirit, all falls to the ground.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, guide our aim
and strength and vision in everything we do. Amen
Question of
the Week: Am I reflecting, praying and acting in a healthy
rhythm?
