Reflection: |
Surrounded by sheaths of bubble wrap protecting
our prized possessions and piles of boxes
containing our worldly goods, we were ready to
move again. We had done much searching for that
perfect home, choosing amongst the
characteristics we wanted and the amenities we
could afford. We sought features to lighten the
load of our daily tasks and create a sanctuary
from the worries outside. Choices were made;
papers were signed. Would this be our dream
house, our forever house? While we often seek
contentment and happiness in our earthly
dwellings, the psalmist sought peace and
salvation in the house of the Lord. It was the
one thing he sought, the one thing he desired.
It is the same one thing that we work so hard to
achieve on our own and that we find so
impossible to acquire by our own devices. In
God's dwelling we are guests invited to receive
grace and mercy, gifted with peace and
salvation.
A short two years after moving into our
house, it was time to move on and time to dream
anew. Our dwellings are not perfect or
permanent, but God's love is flawless and
eternal. And while our earthly homes may provide
warmth, rest, and security, God's eternal home
does provide peace, comfort, and joy. |
