Meditation: October 28, 2007

" For he is a God of Justice, who knows no favorite. " Sirach 35:12 (New American Bible)

Reflection:

In golf tournaments there are favorites who are expected to win. Occasionally an unknown player has an exceptional day, and the favorites are challenged for the championship.

The golf course remains the same for all the players. It does not know the favorite from the duffer, the pro from the amateur. The tees remain the same, the water hazards don’t move, the hole placement is constant from player to player.

God is a constant for all people. No one is a favorite. Poor or rich, young or old, male or female; are all equal in God’s sight.

The rules of the game are given to everyone by Jesus in Luke 10:27, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”

Like in golf, the rules aren’t that hard, the course doesn’t play favorites, but the game is difficult.

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for making the course of 'life with you' available to everyone. Amen

Question of
the Week:
What area of my “game” will I work on this week: loving God more, my neighbor as myself, or both?
