The confirmation program at St. John’s seeks to help 6th-8th grade
students grow in their relationship with God by learning more about the
Christian faith. At St. John’s, we seek to help our youth integrate
Worship, Outreach,
Learning and Fellowship
into themselves as they lead their Christian lives. |

Goal: Our goal for Confirmation is to help grow a living faith in our youth.
A living faith shows through in all aspects of our life. We hope to help
grow this kind of faith by:
- Equipping them with a basic understanding of the Bible, the Lutheran
Christian heritage, and Theology
- Equipping youth to live out their faith daily
- Developing peer and intergenerational relationships that encourage
sharing and aid in faith formation
- Helping youth to discover how God has blessed and gifted them.

Worship
Worship is at the heart of the Christian life. Worship is the Christian
community gathered in prayer, praise, and anticipation; it is where the
hungering spirit is nourished through the Word proclaimed in sermon and
sacrament. Students involved in confirmation ministry - and their parent(s)
- are expected to participate weekly in Sunday worship. Because worship with
the Christian community is necessary of the Christian, worship is an
integral part of the confirmation ministry.
Sermon Notes
Our Lutheran confession identifies that we are a people involved in word and
sacrament ministry. Developing the habits of hearing God's word, applying it
into your own life, and being able to take something away from the sermon is
a skill that will serve you well your whole life of faith. Students during
the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade years are expected to develop this habit and
hone this skill through the use of sermon notes. Each student will complete
15 sermon notes for each year.
