Mission Statement

The mission of the Rainbow Ministry Team is to welcome all and to support and encourage the
St. John’s faith community to be open and inviting without regard to age, race, nationality, political circumstance, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic or family status or physical or mental abilities.

 
A rainbow embraces the full spectrum of color. The church is like a rainbow in that it embraces the full spectrum of God's creation in all its diversity. The Rainbow Ministry Team strives to be a prophetic voice to "A Church for All People." We know that the world is often an unloving place and that the experience of alienation is all too common. To those who have felt excluded here or elsewhere, we extend a particular welcome in Christ's love. We rejoice that diversity has enriched, nurtured and challenged the life and ministry we share as members of the body of Christ and workers in the kingdom of God.


Future Plans

  • Welcome personally those we do not know at worship services.
  • Widen ministry team's understanding of diversity issues and reconciliation through Bible study and other writings.
  • Continue to present classes and forums to educate the members of our congregation on diversity issues.
  • Continue to prepare and serve meals to homeless youth on second Thursday of the month.
  • Join with other diversity groups in Des Moines congregations in educational efforts and special projects.

St. John’s Rainbow Ministry Team meets the first Sunday of each month at 12:15 pm in Rose Holm.  All are welcome to attend!
