Where is St. John's?

An optional question is:
How do I make it through the I-235 construction and still find parking?

Navigating to St. John's (updated January 2006)

As you steer around the I-235 construction, most of the normal routes to St. John’s are once again open for travel.

 From the west on I-235:

Exit at Seventh Street, turn right at the light. St. John’s is on the left after three blocks.

From the east on I-235:

Exit at the Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh downtown exit. Follow the ramp all the way to Seventh Street. Turn left at the light. St. John’s is on the left after three blocks.

From the North / South:

St. John’s is located between Sixth and Seventh Streets two blocks north of Grand Avenue in downtown Des Moines (see above map.)

Keep an eye out here for more details on how to get around the construction as necessary.

Okay … What About Parking ?????

During the workday week - - -

  • Parking is available in the lot adjacent to the north side of the church all week.
  • Metered parking is often available for events during the day – but you must deposit money in the meter. Of course, evening events and weekend worship services will not require meter fees after 6:00 pm during the week nor all weekend long.

During the evening and weekend events - - -

  • Parking is also available just north of the church across Park Street. Enter the lot from Park Street.
  • Additional parking may be found in the lot to the west of the church owned by the Principal. Enter the lot from Watson Powell Junior Parkway (one block south of Park Street).

Which Door Lets Me in This Place???

Well … that depends on the day of the week and time of day.

During office hours or any of the evening activities, the South Courtyard door (commonly referred to as the 'Office Door') is open.

For evening meetings/activities the South Courtyard door is opened one-half hour before scheduled meetings and remains open for one hour.

For worship services and major Fine Arts events, you may enter through doors located off of 7th, the alley doors, the courtyard entrance and the office entrance on Watson Powell Junior Parkway.
